Exercise During Winter Months
Winter comes the cooler mornings and less sunshine. With this comes the temptation to stay inside, especially if you feel a cold coming on. But did you know you can still exercise if you are feeling unwell.
Your Symptoms
If your symptoms (sore throat, a stuffy or runny nose, or a slight headache) are mild and are from the neck up it’s okay to do light to moderate exercise. To stay in the light to moderate range you could consider reducing the duration and intensity of your exercise bout or consider lifting a lower load or reducing the number of sets.
If, however, your symptoms are below the neck (chest congestion, a fever, a wet cough, or any muscular or joint aches and pains) than rest is recommended.
The Benefits of Exercise During The Cold/Flu Season
Exercises boosts the immune system and reduces your risk of infection by increasing blood flow, reducing stress and reducing localised inflammation as well as boosting your anti-bodies. The diagram below shows the relationship between infection risk and Exercise and it points to the light to moderate Exercise reducing the risk of infection.
So, if you are looking to stay active during the winter months and need help please reach out to the Team at Invitation to Health.

Diabetes Education Classes
Join our small, supportive diabetes education group led by Dr Megan Fabbro. This program is designed to help adults with type 2 diabetes build practical skills and confidence to manage their condition day to day.
Each session is held in person and covers key topics such as understanding diabetes, healthy eating, meal planning, and lifestyle strategies. Participants will also learn how to make informed food choices, navigate shopping and dining out, and develop sustainable habits for long-term health.
By the end of the program, you’ll create a personalised action plan to support ongoing diabetes management in a safe and encouraging group environment.
